Crimes in the Bible - Volume II

SAUL, DAVID, SOLOMON - 1,100 to 930 BC

An engaging and original retelling of stories from the Bible

The Bible provides us with many cases of crimes, ranging from the most common—such as theft, deception, or betrayal—to the most horrific: rape, murder, war crimes, genocide.

In this second volume, Serge Janouin-Benanti introduces us to the dark side of the reigns of the most famous kings of Israel: Saul, David, and Solomon.

Though mass killings are less frequent in this volume, the protagonists are animated by violent human passions that push them to betrayals, rapes, murders, human sacrifices…

The strong characters of Saul, David, and Solomon are revealed, as are their weaknesses. The plot develops around many characters who only play a secondary role in history, including Samuel, Jonathan, Michal, Doeg, the witch of Endor, Nabal, Abigail, the kings Achish and Ish-bosheth, Abner, Joab, Amasa, Bathsheba, Uriah the Hittite, Nathan, Tamar, Amnon, Absalom, Adonijah, Ahithophel, Shimei, Rizpah, Abishag, the Queen of Sheba, Naamah, Rehoboam, and Jeroboam.

An engaging and unprecedented reading of stories from the Bible.

Book Reviews

If the Bible is a real labyrinth, getting into it with Serge Janouin-Benanti is a real treat.

Embellished with an abundant iconography, the work reminds us of the old illustrated Bibles.

This second volume, like the first, enchants the eyes and ears.

Once again, we look forward to the next volume.
